Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

My husband has been watching the serial Coupling over the last few days and the theme song has been haunting me. According to him, the original is called “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás”. I googled and found that the lyrics are by Cuban songwriter Osvaldo Farrés, written in 1947, in Spanish. When I was younger, I’d heard an English version “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps”. I found a few online by Cake, Nat King Cole, Doris Day and Geri Halliwell but none of these versions matched. It will come back to me or better yet , I’ll check with my parents. 😀 In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the video of this version sung by Doris Day with clips from the cartoon film Anastasia.

For those who remember the song I hope it brings back good memories.

You won’t admit you love me.
And so how am I ever to know?
You only answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

A million times I’ve asked you,
And then I ask you over again.
You only tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

If you can’t make your mind up,
We’ll never get started.
And I don’t wanna wind up
Being parted, broken-hearted.

So if you really love me, say yes.
But if you don’t, dear, confess.
And please don’t tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

If you can’t make your mind up,
We’ll never get started.
And I don’t wanna wind up
Being parted, broken-hearted.
