I was making a “space” for my art links on one of my bookmarking sites, Blinklist. The page offered me a choice of uploading a logo and a header. Of course I had neither. Decided that making a logo would be my art activity of the day.
Opened up Art Rage and started doodling. There wasn’t any thinking that went into this and that is quite obvious. While making it I did think a bit:D but not about logos or the site, I was thinking of making Mandalas and hence the two circles. In fact, this will be used as one of the Mandalas in another exercise that I’m working on. So net net, I got carried away and forgot that I was making the logo for Blinklist.
Took this to Photoshop and added text but couldnt get it to follow the path of the object. Surfed around for a PS tutorial and found many. Selected one which seemed simple. I couldnt see the window with the instructions and the work on one screen at the same time. I tried but had to give up.
My husband who is forced to comment on all my work liked it but wanted to know what the connection between Maya and the blob was and so I didn’t tell him that this was for Blinklist 😛 I’ve put it up on the site inspite of lack of any connection whatsoever. I hope to have a more meaningful logo to replace it with – soon.
Photoshop seems to be quite difficult to pick up. For instance, I was expecting that clicking on an object would select it but that does not seem to be the case. Also I had imported this object from Art Rage with the layers intact and was hoping to add shadows to the sunglasses, the round face and the collar. Any tips for me? or a site with tutorials? or a book with simple instructions for a newbie. Do leave me a comment if you can help.
Update : Oct 12 : Found a way to add shadows and now maybe they’re a bit overdone now but I think Take 2 looks better. Now need to figure out how to line up the text along the outer circumference of this object.
Update : Dec 6 : Found an easy way to add text to a path. I’ll update this graphic later but you can see my attempt here. All that you need to do is to select the pen tool and draw out a path for the text. Then you choose the text “T” icon and hover it over the path till it changes shape and click. As the cursor starts blinking on the path, type in your text and there you have it! Now I need to find out how to draw squares and circles as paths 😛 my freehand ones using the tablet are quite lousy.
